energy from the heartland

Industry Impact
The Kansas oil and natural gas industry is an economic engine that generates nearly $4.3 billion each year, and sends more than 28,100 Kansans to work each day. Our state’s second largest industry also provides hundreds of millions of dollars in tax revenue to fund schools, build bridges and pave roads. With demand for domestic energy increasing, and drilling and recovery technology advancing, the Kansas oil and gas industry is key to the economic future of our nation and our state.
Tax Revenue
Over $375 million in taxes (up 75 million from 2005), helped fund schools and roads in Kansas in 2007, thanks to the oil and gas industry.
Ad valorem tax collections also increased nearly 191% from 1999 to 2006.
These funds are vital in supporting Kansas’ infrastructure and public works projects.
Economic Impact
The Kansas oil and natural gas industry employs 9,100 Kansans directly, and 19,000 non-industry jobs indirectly.
The total economic impact is more than $4.3 billion each year. Funding provided by the Kansas oil and natural gas industry touches every Kansan every day. As demand for energy rises, the industry’s economic impact will continue to grow.
